An incredible 2024 whale watching season that surpassed all our expectations with the Humpback whales migrating along the east coast of Australia in record numbers 🐋🐋🐋🐋 Luckily in Sydney, we are right in the middle of the east coast migratory passage, we experience the best of the Northern migration mid May to mid August and then the best of the homeward migration to the south from mid August to early November. During the next few months we will share with you all some of our favourite moments😀 Lets start with a little jumping, everyone loves a good breach, right 🚀🚀 We also would like to take this opportunity to thank each and everyone who chose to experience the 2024 migration with the GoWhaleWatching team in particular our hardy passengers, who experienced life on the ocean outside Sydney heads, a little wild at times😀 Thank you also, to our small team of passionate skippers, deckhands, dedicated photographers, wildlife enthusiasts and good friends, who documented every tour this year, rewarding our passengers with some wonderful memories to take home. Yesterday was our final tour of the 2024 whale watching season. WHAT AN AMAZING SEASON IT HAS BEEN! The Whales treated all onboard Cat Balou to a wonderful display of breaching, tail throwing, pec slapping and tail slapping 🐋🐋 We even witnessed a mini spy hop 😀We spotted 3 separate pods of whales for the day and decided to track the more active of the 3 groups just off Long Reef, a good decision. Well spotted by our deckie😀An ABSOLUTELY wonderful end to our 2024 season and although it is always sad to end the season. It is also encouraging to see so many healthy humpbacks moving north and south along the east coast of Australia, WE LOVE OUR WHALES🐋🐋 The whole Go Whale watching team wish the whales all the luck in the world to get them safely back home where they can all have a good feed and we will hopefully see them again during the 2025 migration🤞A MASSIVE thank you to all our passionate whale watching passengers and THANK YOU WHALES, see you next year!

Our penultimate day watching this amazing migration for 2024! Again all onboard Cat Balou were lucky to find whales on both tours today on a wonderful Sydney spring day ☀️ As we left the heads to the north we spotted a splashy whale just off south head showing a few tail slaps🐋We then managed to locate a pod of six big whales just off Blue fish point and tracked them to north head where they seemed to split into two groups. All onboard Cat Balou were also lucky enough to witness a totally random breach 🚀about 800m from the rear of the vessel. We tracked a single adult whale during the second tour that was happily cruising home to the south 🐋 Again we were treated to another random jump to the rear of the vessel from a whale that only showed itself the once and that was a breach 🚀 Our final tour for the 2024 season is tomorrow Monday 4th November 12:15pm, lets go find our last whales of season 2024 and what an amazing season it has been ! Whales on both tours today 🐋 We counted at least eight Humpbacks on the first trip all seemingly happy to hang around the middle of the Sydney heads in no real hurry to go in any direction making them a little tricky to track 🙃 A few onboard Cat Balou witnessed a couple of unpredictably random tail throws and as we headed back to base we were visited by the always reliable dolphins 🐬🐬 On our second tour, and as we made our way outside the Sydney heads, we noticed another group of whales and a second pod of two humpbacks further to the north which ended up being joined by another group of whales 🐋🐋Our friendly dolphins 🐬🐬also paid us a visit 😀 No acrobatics today, other than a distant breach, but observing 14 whales for the day is pretty great for this time of the season :) Next Tours tomorrow Sunday 3rd November 9:00am and 12:15pm lets go find some whales 😀 Join the team and enjoy watching this amazing migration🐋🐋 Book online at https://gowhalewatchingsydney.com.au/ or ring the office direct: 02 6495 1686

Today as we exited the Sydney heads, Friday funday started just off south head when all onboard Cat Balou came across four humpbacks cruising to the south🐋🐋 The team were treated to an excitable juvenile humpback practicing a couple acrobatic breaches, very cool for all to observe😀 We also came across a beautiful pod of Dolphins always great to see🐬🐬🐬 We tracked the pod to Bondi before we made our return to base. We then made our way to the north for the second tour of the day. After leaving Sydney heads this afternoon we didn’t travel too far before we picked up a large pod of dolphins and our first pod of Humpbacks🐋🐋🐋 we initially encounter 3 whales that soon turned into a pod of 4 Humpbacks 😀This pod were pretty interested in the sound of Cat Balou and once they were familiar with our presence they showed all on board Cat Balou some close encounters and a few wonderful flukes 🐋😀 We tracked the group back to the heads before they continued their journey to the South. Another wonderful afternoon on the Tasman Sea with so many humpbacks still passing Sydney. The Cat Balou team forgot to post our pics from last Sunday when we had unusual encounter with a pair of humpback right in the harbour 🐋🐋 Usually we don’t like to see whales in the harbour as it could be problematic for the animals with the amount of immediate vessel activity close to the whales. The national parks and wildlife and police were monitoring the situation and most of the recreational vessels did the right thing, however a few were way too close. This morning we found whales at North Head and travelled with them past South Head. These two amazing whales surfaced at regular intervals and were enjoyable to watch. Back out for our afternoon cruise and we found a whale off Manly Beach. This single whale soon turned into five whales 🐋🐋🐋🐋🐋 who were inquisitive and playful. So many humpback groups passing Sydney on the Southern migration at the moment 🐋🐋🐋 We counted at least 12 whales on the first cruise of the day. As we made our way to a splashy whale out wide we had a breach at the back of Cat Balou that then showed us a few cool head lunges :) We then caught up with very erratic competition pod of eight whales, as they bumped and jostled their way to the south.😀 During the midday trip we decided to focus on pod of two whales, that were for most of the trip, relaxed and enjoying the Sydney city scape. All onboard Cat Balou enjoyed the most wonderful Sydney weather today ☀️ and witnessed a few distant breaches🐋🐋 and a few beautiful tails super close to south head. Lots of backwash close to the cliff so we decided to find another pod of whales due to the comfort of our passengers 😊 We ventured out to the east a little to a splashy whale that went quiet on approach. Then caught up with another duo that performed a few breaches just off Manly on approach 🐋🐋On our way back to base we saw some big breaches back to the North and went to investigate before we turned back to base again, another wonderful day on the ocean 🌊 More amazing weather on the Tasman Sea today and tomorrow should be more of the same ☀️ We ave a few seat available on tomorrow’s cruise. We didn’t have to travel far outside the Sydney heads before we spotted our first humpbacks🐋🐋 We ventured out to track the mum and calf pair that were cruising to the south. We noticed quite a bit of activity to the North and as we were working on a plan, luckily a playful calf in the distance, towards Hornby light house, caught our attention😀 Cat Balou and the team decided to check out the Mum and Calf, that proceeded to display a few baby breaches and some lovely tail activity🐋🐋🐋🐋 Stunning Weather on the Tasman Sea today and tomorrow will be more of the same ☀️ We ave a few seat available on tomorrow’s cruise. Still plenty of Humpbacks passing Sydney at the moment 🐋🐋 All on board Cat Balou spotted three separate mums and calfs all cruising to the South slowly enjoying the super calm ocean conditions 😀We followed a mum and calf pair for most of the tour that enjoyed short downtimes but never showed any real acrobatics. As we returned to base, after visiting the Seal Colony below Macquarie Lighthouse, we came across a single small humpback close into the rocks that displayed a few tail slaps before it continued it’s journey to the south. So many Mums and Calves passing Sydney at the moment and it was difficult to know what direction to travel and not to “pod hop” The ocean was full of whales today 🐋🐋🐋🐋all on board Cat Balou observed a couple of close encounters and were mindful of our distance requirements and the respect for these wonderful animals 😀 As the team and passengers returned to base, on the first tour, we passed a competition pod of about 10-12 humpbacks, very impressive 🥰🥰 No massive acrobatics today, even though our photographers were ready for the jump :) All the whales we watched throughout the day where enjoying the calm conditions as they made their way slowly to the south. This morning we found a humpback mother and calf right in the middle of the Heads. We tracked them to Bondi where we were treated to a stunning 35min display of humpback acrobatics. Today was a good day on the humpback highway. On our morning cruise we followed a mother, calf and escort from the Heads to Bondi. We were lucky to see a few tail throws and a great breach from the calf 💙 This afternoon we found a splashy juvenile and three separate pods of adults all heading south. What a day on the ocean! Three wonderful tours today all displaying this incredible migration :) The greatest show on earth! What an ABSOLUTELY beautiful day on the ocean today 💙 So many mums and calf’s passing by Sydney 🐋🐋 Most groups were content with taking advantage of the calmer conditions and slowly making their way to the south on what is an arduous and incredible migration. All onboard Cat Balou were lucky to observe a variety of humpback behaviours throughout the day, including a few breaches from one of the young whales in the morning and plenty of close encounters from the adults, showing their pectoral and fluke displays. Happy Humpday! Happy Mondays 😉 Today the wind and the swell came together to create a perfect humpback event! During the morning tour we spotted so many active humpbacks, in close, and way out wide. Just the one adventure today enjoying a Tasman Sea with a little attitude, we love it! The rain held off and the sun came ☀️As we slowly exited the heads we observed our first pod of humpbacks in the first 10 minutes, we tried to track them for a while but they proved to be a little elusive, It wasn’t long before we spotted another humpback blow in line with north head 🐋🐋We followed this pod south, past the Sydney heads, and they treated all onboard Catbalou to a small acrobatic display and then continued on their way to the south. We spotted at least 10 pods of whales during the morning tour all with the same behaviour, cruising along to the south, short up times but no major acrobatics until we were treated to a surprise random breach 🐋 We then tracked further towards Diamond Bay to watch a couple of tail slapping juveniles. Towards the end of the tour we were lucky to get a visit by a trio of larger humpbacks that put on quite a display including a huge full body breach right at the bow of Catbalou! The afternoon was more subdued with plenty of splashing out wide in a few different directions. The Catblou team decided against pod hopping and tracked a couple of smaller humpbacks that showed us a few distant jumps on approach 😀On the way back to base we cruised towards a couple of tail slappers that when quiet as we approached. A beautifully warm and sunny day on the Tasman Sea☀️The day started off quiet during the morning tour until we spotted an active mum and calf close in to the cliffs of the Eastern Suburbs. We then tracked a couple of single whales before we headed back to base🐋 We then headed out to sea on the afternoon tour to find a pod of dolphins 🐬🐬 splashing around with a couple of whales, which kept all onboard Catbalou amused 😀We then decided to keep searching for a new pod of humpbacks and came across a single humpback that gave the team a mini mugging, we even managed some cool underwater footage. BLADERUNNER! What a day today with a great morning adventure where we followed a mum and calf for most of the trip in a quite relaxed mood then out of the blue, literally, the mum showed us a lovely breach and then followed by the youngster 🐋🐋 During the second tour of the day everyone was treated to a RARE appearance by Bladerunner a female humpback showing the deep scars all along its body caused by a boat propeller strike many years ago. Today she was showing off her new calf, which gave all on board Cat Balou a couple of lovely breaches :) Bladerunner was being accompanied by a humpback escort on their way back south. Wowee what an unforgettable day on the Tasman Sea, the pictures really can do the talking an outstanding day with these amazing animals :) During the morning we had an beautiful mugging and managed to get some pretty awesome underwater footage (will share in a separate post) and a super close spy hop that wowed everyone onboard Cat Balou :) We spotted so many pods of whales on the afternoon trip and was a bit tricky to decide which ones to follow after heading towards long reef we made a team decision and decided to back ourselves and head back to an active pod. It was great to be back out on the ocean today - the winds had dropped down from the weekend and the sun was shining - always a good start to the day! On our morning trip we journeyed south with a pair of humpbacks who were surfacing regularly. This morning ocean conditions were simply stunning and we found some very friendly humpback whales just outside the Harbour. We were super lucky to be able to watch these whales for over an hour as they rolled and played with one another - and with us💙🐋 On our afternoon tour we headed to Blue Fish to find a cow and calf pair. They were cruising south slowly and we observed them rolling around with one another and some lovely tails. Unfortunately there is a gale wind warning and large seas forecast for Sydney Coastal Waters tomorrow so tours have been cancelled on Sunday. A tale (Fluke) of two stories today 🙂 The morning trip…. Two excellent tours today with more pods of humpbacks in every direction :) The weather switched on ☀️☀️☀️and so did the whales 🐋🐋 During the morning tour we followed a single humpback that was initially was in cruise mode then launched into a couple of impressive breaches 💪💪we then tracked a bit further to the north to pick up another pod of south bound whales that pec slapped and showed all onboard Bubbles a couple of breaches as we had left for base 🙃 We caught up with the same pair on the sunset tour that decided to show us their acrobatic repertoire at close quarters 😀incredible breaches and pec slapping as they checked out the Eastern suburbs real estate, a fabulous day on the Tasman Sea, we love it! A spectacular morning for all on board Bubbles with wonderful sunny ☀️ winter conditions and an equally wonderful pair of humpbacks performing tail synchronicity, including some very high tail throws, very very cool to witness 😀 During the afternoon tour we came across a pair of very splashy humpbacks as soon as we left the heads 🐋😊 This humpback duo displaying breaches on approach and more impressive tails and pec slapping. Lots of pods observed today with a few travelling in both directions to the north and to the south. How good are breaching whales 🚀🚀🚀 We don’t get to see whales breaching every day but when we do it sure brings a smile to our faces 😀😀😀 We were very lucky to see some fantastic action from the whales on our morning cruise today. Then this afternoon we found a mother and new season calf and a pod of five whales who were all in cruise mode. Today we saw whales heading north and south - this two way traffic can make it challenging to track but we had a most enjoyable day with fantastic calm conditions. Another gorgeous, sunny and calm day off Sydney today. This morning we journeyed with two whales from the Heads to Long Reef. This pair were surfacing regularly and it was an enjoyable time to be on the water. Then this afternoon we watched four separate whales all cruising along. We were lucky to have some close encounters and see some lovely tails. We are loving these calm conditions which thankfully are set to continue tomorrow! Hope to see you out there. Finally a calm day at sea 😀 The whales seemed to be enjoying the calm conditions as well and we found whales on both our tours. We followed three whales this morning who surfaced regularly as they cruised north. Then this afternoon we found another pair of humpback whales quietly making their way north. Three wonderful adventures today 🐋🐋All onboard the early trip witnessed a single aerobatic humpback just off Maroubra launching itself out of the ocean so many times, amazing! We travelled a long way to the south on our midday tour to find a couple more pods of humpbacks tracking their way to the north. So much life on the ocean today 💙 We caught up with a pod of 4 whales on the early tour 🐋🐋🐋🐋 possibly 3 males keeping up with a female humpback leading the way :) The afternoon adventure took us a little further out to sea after seeing a distant double breach 👀 We then managed to catch up with a single humpback making its way to the north 🐋 An abundance of sea birds and dolphins encountered throughout the day. Today the whales saved the best for last 😊 Captain Simon often says that whale watching is a patience game. This morning after finding a few whales that didn’t want to be viewed we headed offshore and found a competition pod of six. These whales showed great energy and were fun to watch. In our midday cruise we followed a pair of adults north.
